The Timing of Migration

Recent data from interior Alaskan bird banding stations suggests that many species of birds may be migrating earlier in the fall than they used to. This long-term study, which uses over 100,000 bird capture records, builds on other research efforts that have found that spring migration is occurring earlier than it used to in other parts of North America. Check out this ArcGIS StoryMap, which explains the data and its implications.

Journeys from the North: Where have songbirds banded at the Creamer’s Field Migration Station been relocated?

ASI has banded birds that have been recaptured and recovered all across the contiguous United States. Journeys From the North, an ArcGIS StoryMap presentation, tells this story, illustrating our birds’ journeys from the arctic tundra to lower latitudes.
