Thank you for bringing your students to the Alaska Songbird Institute at Creamer’s Field! We look forward to your visit!

Please arrange your bus and confirm your arrival time with the Alaska Songbird Institute. The field trip lasts about 2 hours and 15 minutes. We need to start by 10 AM at the latest, but we can start as soon you can get to Creamer’s Field (the sooner the better for birds!)

Discuss footwear & layers with your students. Mornings on the refuge can be cold and wet. Students will be walking outside for most of their visit, regardless of the weather. Layers and comfortable, waterproof footwear are recommended.

Arrange chaperones. Please bring at least one adult for every 8 students.

Let us know if your students have any allergies or other conditions we should know about prior to coming out in the field.

We have a variety of resources to help you prepare for and follow up on your visit including a Virtual Bird Banding Field Trip, a series of Fairbanks Birdwatching videos (about 5 min each), and the Creamer’s Field Student Activity Book.

ON THE DAY OF YOUR PROGRAM:

If you are traveling by bus, we will meet your bus at the pull out just before the Creamer’s Farmhouse. Look for our staff to greet you.

If you are carpooling, please park in the lot to the east of the Creamer’s Farmhouse. We will meet you there.

Ensure your students are prepared with proper footwear and warm clothing.

Please remember the program fee is $65 PER CLASS. The fee is payable on the day of your program. We can accept cash, check, or school credit card. Make checks payable to ALASKA SONGBIRD INSTITUTE. You will receive a receipt to take back to school with you. Thank you! Your funds directly support the work of the Alaska Songbird Institute.

If it is raining (or snowing!), bird banding will be canceled. However, we can offer an alternative program. Even if bird banding is cancelled, we will spend our time OUTSIDE! Please help your students remember to come prepared.

Please do not hesitate to contact ASI at (907) 888-2121 or programs@aksongbird.org with any questions.

THANK YOU! We look forward to seeing you & your students out at Creamer’s Field!
