We are looking for a number of essential field and office-related supplies. Direct links are provided for some items. You can have them shipped to ASI directly (P.O. Box 80235, Fairbanks, AK 99708). Field Supplies

  • Mist nets (cash equivalent or Avinet gift card): Mist nets can only be directly purchased by federal banding permit holders, but you can support our net needs by purchasing an Avinet gift card! (Our nets currently cost ~$165)
  • 3/4″ metal conduit poles – for mist net poles
  • Rebar – for net anchors
  • Propane for the banding tent (20# tank refills)
  • Small swiss army knives/multi-tools (like these!)
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Carabiners (small/mini sizes preferred)
  • Ziploc bags – quart sized
  • Binoculars in good working order for our youth and community programs
  • Wading boots (used is fine) – men’s size 10-11 needed most
  • Rite in Rain notebooks for our student volunteers: 3×5 top spiral and No. 313 side spiral (4.625 x 7 level pattern)
  • Rite in Rain printer paper (8.5×11, white, 20#)
  • Mechanical pencils
  • KT tape (dark/neutral colors preferred)
  • Gift card(s) to Amazon for misc. needs

Office Supplies

  • Gorilla duct tape
  • Business-sized envelopes
  • Stamps
  • Sharpies/permanent markers
  • Recycled printer paper (8.5″ x 11″)
  • Gift card(s) to Office Max for misc. office & printing needs

Miscellaneous 

  • Bicycles – for transportation use by seasonal staff
  • Signage – e.g. sturdy wooden frames used for donor recognition signs at banding station

  • Creative fundraisers
  • Creamer’s Field Migration Station (CFMS) volunteers–checking & extracting birds from mist nets, recording data, entering & proofing data
  • Lead Volunteers (to help train and schedule CFMS volunteers)

  • Archiving historical data and reports from the Alaska Bird Observatory

Seasonal Housing

Please let us know if are willing to host a seasonal employee in the future. Generally, our greatest need for temporary housing is for our fall banding personnel every August and September.
